Join RESIST! is a contemporary reimagining of the 1996–1998 RESIST! zine, originally distributed across St. Louis by a group of radical lesbians with the aim of uplifting and unifying the local queer community. The original zine featured poetry, creative writing, and calls to action on topics of love, anti-racism, bi-racial relationships, intersectional feminism, and the complexities of being queer in public spaces. My research was grounded in RESIST!’s archived issues at Washington University’s Special Collections, supplemented by independent research of the ‘90s LGBTQ+ community and spaces of St. Louis (pgs. 4-5). While honoring the zine’s minimalist layout — simple text boxes and sparse imagery — I introduced pink ink and dynamic, cut-and-paste typography to echo the energy of punk feminist zines like Riot Grrrl. This aesthetic shift bridges past and present, celebrating queer resistance while inviting new voices in. The final page offers a curated list of active, local LGBTQ+ organizations, connecting today’s queer St. Louisans to their city’s vibrant queer history and community.
